I would really love to write a children's book but I'm totally blank on what to write. I never knew how difficult is to write a children's book! One idea I had was to write a book of bible stories for kids aged 3 to 5. However, I found out that were numerous books in this category so I changed my mind.
One day, while I was driving my 3-year old son to school, I noticed that he looked bored. To relieve his boredom, I decided to tell him a story from my head. It was about a truck driver who always went on adventures around the country. This particular one was about how his experiences when transporting an elephant to a zoo in another town. My son kept asking me, "Mom, is your story finished yet?". At first, I didn't catch on but then I realized that he might not like my story so I asked him. You know what he said? "Mom, your story is boring!" I burst into laughter but I figure that if your story is not liked by the target group you wrote it for, what's the point? I must tell you that my son loves books and so I must say that I trust his judgment.
Are you a children's writer and your books don't sell? Maybe the next time you write a children's book, try reading it to your target audience first. If it doesn't pass the test, you might need to rewrite! Wink!

ReplyDeletewriting for children is not easy. I have been writing one since the beginning of the year and i am still in chapter one. You just have to come down to them level and understand their new languages since it changes regularly. I love your two blogs
